Naim SuperUnitiÂ
The SuperUniti is all in the name, a ‘super’ version of the Uniti. It sounds quite ‘simple’, but actually this is how we see the product. The SuperUniti is an all-round streamer. It has an internal DAB/FM internet tuner with network streaming via UPnP technology and an amplifier of 80 Watts per channel at a load of 8 Ohm. Where many audiophiles prefer a combination of different devices to actually do the same thing, Naim decided to integrate all this in the SuperUniti. There’s an USB port giving you the opportunity to use a flash drive or iPod/iPhone to play files, DAC,… as mentioned before, all-in-one.
With the Naim SuperUniti, you can play Hi-res audio up to 24 bit/192kHz over your network. You can connect that network via the Ethernet port, but this is also smoothly done via the included wireless system. Strictly speaking, the power amplifier in this device comes from the Supernait integrated amplifier. The digital audio hardware then comes from the NDX network player, whilst the conversion technology from digital to analogue comes from the Naim DAC. The device is able to process the following digital file formats: wav, flac, Apple Lossless, AIFF, AAC, MP3, M4A, Windows Media files, LPCM and Ogg Vorbis. Moreover, the SuperUniti will also recognize the M3U and PLS playlist formats and is able to seamlessly play all files one after the other.

A glance at the Naim website learns that the brand offers three devices in this category: the NaimUniti 2, the SuperUniti and the UnitiQute. What do those 3 all-in-one players have in common? All Uniti’s offer high resolution streaming, multi-format radio (FM / DAB / Internet), iPod / iPad /iPhone and MP3 player connectivity, a DAC and stereo amplification. So what are the differences? The NaimUniti 2 integrates a CD player and delivers power with a 70 Watt amplification. A UnitiQute offers all common possibilities mentioned above. The integrated amplifier is able to supply power of 45 Watt per channel. The unique thing about this device is the size. With its 87x207x314 mm this is the sturdy mini from the range. In view of power, the SuperUniti shows the strongest numbers: 2×80 Watt. Naim itself describes it as an integrated wireless UPnP network player, USB audio player, iPod and iPhone dock, internet radio, DAB radio, FM radio, 10 input digital an analogue preamplifier, digital to analogue converter and a stereo amplifier of 80 Watts. Rather a mouthful, it’s clearly the price beast, the most fully loaded device of the Naim all-in-one range. For example, the Naim SuperUniti has as much as 6 digital inputs onboard (1 x coaxial BNC, 1 x coaxial RCA, 3 x toslink and 1 x 3.5 mm mini-toslink on the front panel). This is quite something to work with.
