The DXD-12012
The first version of this compact sub saw its life in 1992 and even then the sub was based on above mentioned speaker design principles and was also the first THX certified sub suitable for home use. The DXD-12012 uses two 12-inch drivers which are powered by a 750W class D amplifier from Claridy. This delivers on peak to 2200W what should guarantees lots and lots of power and reserve.
The drivers are of the long type. Its weight is kept as low as possible by using special materials while the structural strength is enhanced by long fibres. These properties ensure, together with the large combined cone surface for a very large air travel, which obviously just is the intention of a subwoofer. “Size does matter”, do not let you tell otherwise, especially not on sound level.
The result is 37 kg heavy and sublime is finished. The dimensions are also impressive: with 60 on 40 at 50 cm is the sub not very easy hidden or unseen. But can of course also be a virtue of necessity: the high gloss black enamel paint is a delight for the eye, of course they are pretty fingerprint and dust sensitive. But the sub should definitely can be seen in many living room. The 3D Pulsar technology used in the sub is able to switch, if the power would not yet be found sufficient, 2 or 4 subs. The necessary facilities in order to create a “Wall of sound”, literally then, are available. The whole system is also then suitable to provide large spaces of the necessary pressure.
First contact
The sub is by far the largest, and most expensive, low tone provider , wich I have allowed to test so far. Moreover, the high end connections also tell the ambitions of the device: there are no possibilities to connect on loudspeaker level, but only on line level and then both cinch/RCA as with XLR. A receiver or processor can directly be linked to the phono Jack (and), the filter and other settings of the receiver are used than with Green indicated default settings. Very handy. Keeps above that connection to a integrated amplifier is only possible when there is a pre-out provided, but this is no problem with the modern amplifiers.
The link to my Harman Kardon 7500 receiver was quickly created, the settings were put on factory presets in that way the HK ,through his bass management, could control the KK and expectations meanwhile were very high.
