What about (SA)CDs?
When you have selected the type and brand of (SA)CD player, it is still possible to adjust some things by changing interlink and power cord, but then that is all. The advantages of the CD are ease of use and easy storage. Here you can even take the CDs from the box and store them in specially designed bags that take up less space. As compared to vinyl, a CD is almost indestructible (although some people see this in a different way).
The bigger amount of music on one disc/side also offers an advantage. Obviously there’s a difference in quality of CDs, depending on the publisher (for example Stockfish with fine results through its high-quality recording techniques). But that’s also the case with vinyl. Random listening is possible, but is obviously limited to the CD itself, unless you dispose of a multi-loader.
Why no streaming or hard disc?
With regard to streaming or hard discs, the offer has expanded so much during the past years, that I will only venture to look at the pros and contras as compared to the previous two mediums.
The biggest advantage is random playing or quick switching between songs. Just think about a song or an artist, and in seconds it’s playing from the speakers. The quality is very similar, depending on the available hardware. Here you need a trained ear if you want or dare to discuss everything in great detail. Apple applications (Apps) are available, that evoke the vinyl sound by adding creaking sounds to the source. How far can and do you want to go?
The amount of terra bites of music you can stock by taking this from your own CDs or through legal download is huge. Some web suppliers focus on the entire market, others concentrate on some well defined music genres.
