S Series sound system
The youngest series is Steinway-Lyngdorf’s way of making exceptional sound accessible to every music and film lover. Mind you, given the performance of this equipment, we are in the high end range, and higher. Don’t expect any price levels of around 399 EUR per part. Whomever prefers listening in stereo can choose for a SP-1 stereo processor, together with an A2 (4×200 Watt digital power amplifier), 2 S-15 speakers and 2xS-210 Boundary woofers. The system we listened to at BNL distributor Hifi Corner Trading was a multiple channel setup. All equipment: P1 Surround processor, 4xA1 digital power amps (2×400 Watt), 5xS-15 speakers and 2xS210 Boundary woofers. All Steinway-Lyngdorf equipment is connected through Steinway-Lyngdorf Digital Links. Simply said, the signal transfer happens in a digital way over network cables. No BS using expensive interlinks. These cables are included. The setup of such a system is best left to an expert. The measuring of the room using the speakers might be possible yourself, but again, I’d suggest leaving this to an expert. One of the nice things is that you can hook up your P1 Surround processor and control everything through an iPad.
The S-15 aluminium speaker is available in silver or a matte black. The speaker is especially compact: 26cm x 20cm x 7.9cm (10¼in x 7?in x 3?in). This two way has a frequency range of 120Hz to 22kHz and a maximum SPL of 114dB. The taxability ranges from 200 to 600 Watt. Frankly, these speakers are built to be mounted on a wall. A patent has been filed for the AER system (Ambiance Enhancing Radiation). AER presents the ability of the tweeter spreading the high tones in such a way that you get more depth.
Accurate bass is guaranteed by a pair of S-210 Boundary woofers. These woofers are best placed diagonally in the corners of the room, making sure every 10in woofer is supported by a wall. This increases the yield of 114dB to 117dB. The taxability ranges from 400 to 800 Watt. They have a frequency range from 25Hz to 500Hz. These also are very compact: 37,3cm x 36cm x 36cm (14?in x 14?in x 14?in). Each woofer weighs in at 20.5kg (45.2lbs). Same as with the speakers, the design is available in silver and matte black.
A P1 Surround processor has 8-channel RoomPerfect, Bass Management, Time alignment and Automatic level alignment. This unit can decode nearly every modern sound format, and execute post-processing. Of course it also accepts a PCM data stream (stereo or multiple channel). There is no lack of inputs either: 5 HDMI (v1.3) ports. In the setup menu I was able to give the S-15 speakers everything up to 400Hz, everything below that was put through to the S-210 woofers.
